hilary's portraits - vancouver portrait photographer

Hilary has been a close friend for almost a decade so when I was planning my annual visit to San Francisco and she mentioned she was starting a new blog, we decided right then and there that I would take some portraits she could use for it. I won't ruin the surprise, but followers of Hilary's previous blogs are going to pretty excited about what's making a comeback. Sorry, no spoilers!

After a morning brunch at the San Francisco Ferry Building, followed by photos and a jaunt through an amazing farmer's market, we ended up back at the Presidio to take some early evening portraits. I have to say there's nothing like taking photos of a bestie to get those belly laughs going. I am definitely saving those outtakes!

baby c - vancouver newborn photographer

When I was asked to photograph this little bundle, I jumped at the opportunity. Her mama and I used to work together long before either of us had any little ones and I hadn't seen her in ages. Turns out, unsurprisingly, both her daughters are just as gorgeous as her. I photographed little C less than a week after her arrival and Mama looked A-mazing! As a side note, I think big sister might be cut out for a modeling career, don't you agree? It was more than a bit difficult to choose just a handful of these to share.

I had the honor of taking photos of this sweet baby girl this past weekend. Here's a first look from the session; such a little beauty!

a letter to my daughter on her birthday

I’ve been thinking of a way to describe you on the cusp of your third birthday. Daddy and I always compare you to Kristen Wiig but I’m hesitant to compare you to anyone. You’re all you, sweet and silly, and smelling of sunshine.

Your birth was quite the opposite of your brother’s. The day you were born, I waddled walked to the local farmers market as I did every Saturday that summer. You were due 5 days earlier so I was, understandably, getting slightly impatient for your arrival and tried my best to keep occupied with other things. That evening we sat down to a repeat of SNL and while watching a skit about an ambidextrous flute player, my water broke. After freaking out for a full five minutes, we called the midwife and waited for our ride to the hospital. You arrived less than 6 hours later after a very calm and peaceful labour.

You’ve always had a sweet disposition. You love cuddles and playing Mummy to all your dollies. You're as equally goofy as you are girly. You think it's hilarious to talk to us at the dinner table with your eyes crossed and you've perfected a comical bum wiggle when you dance. You can’t name more than two of the Disney princesses but you know what hobbits are and can name most superheroes and Ninja Turtles. You adore Ariel and the Hulk in equal measure and seem to believe that Disney villains are just misunderstood. You know exactly how to push your brother's buttons but you also worship him and imitate everything he does (much to his chagrin).

I treasure every moment of you and while I'm eager to know the person you will become, I wish for time to slow down ever so slightly. As there is nothing more precious than the little girl you are right now.

welcome!

This is it! My brand new photography blog! I have to be honest and tell you that I'm patting myself on the back for finally getting this together. I've been nothing short of neglectful of my personal blog while I've been concentrating on getting my photography business off the ground. In light of this fact, I've decided to give up Mummy Unscripted and, if the need strikes me, I may write a personal post or two over here. (That's my roundabout way of asking you all to kindly bear with me through this transition).

Please visit my website at lisapickardphotography.com for a portfolio of my work and pricing information. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to leave a comment; I'd love to hear from you!
